We have experience assisting clients in opening the estate, transferring assets to an estate account, filing the necessary paperwork with the Rhode Island Division of Taxation to life the automatic lien on real estate, distributing assets to beneficiaries, preparing accountings and closing estates.

For clients who choose to have their assets distributed through a trust it is important to select a trustee carefully.

The trustee is the individual who is in charge of making trust assets grow and distributing assets according to the trust document. Our office works closely with trustees to wind down trusts, including: ensuring all bills and taxes are paid, real estate is sold (if necessary) and trust assets are distributed to beneficiaries in a timely manner.

We also represent individuals and corporations serving as Trustees of Special Needs Trusts, advising as to permissible distributions to ensure trust beneficiaries maintain their eligibility for any means-tested government benefits they receive.
